The Boiler Room at 208 Savile Street East in Sheffield (S4 7UQ) permanently closed in April 2026. The closure is confirmed on the venue’s own website, which now carries a notice stating it is no longer trading. It had been Sheffield’s only gay sauna — and the only venue operating anywhere in South Yorkshire — since taking over the former Bronx Sauna building.

That leaves a county of around 1.4 million people without a single active gay sauna. Men searching for a venue in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, or the surrounding Peak District and North Derbyshire now need to travel outside the county to find one.

Steam Complex on Ledgard Way in Armley, Leeds (LS12 2EG) is now the nearest active gay sauna to anywhere in South Yorkshire. It is an established multi-level venue with a sauna, steam room, hot tub, licensed bar, lounge, and private cabins. You’ll pay at reception, be given a towel and locker key, and can explore at your own pace — the bar area is a natural place to settle in if you’re not sure where to start.

Sheffield to Leeds is around 36 miles by road. By car, the M1 runs direct between the two cities — allow 45–55 minutes depending on traffic. Steam Complex sits just off the M621 at junction 1, a few minutes west of Leeds city centre, with parking nearby.

By train, Sheffield to Leeds takes around 40–45 minutes on Northern or CrossCountry services, with departures every 15–20 minutes through the day. From Leeds railway station, Steam Complex is a 10-minute taxi ride. Doncaster and Barnsley have direct trains to Leeds; Rotherham connects via Meadowhall or Sheffield.
